When Brazil becomes more than a Travel Destination

Marvelous City

Rio de Janeiro is the Marvelous City and also called the City of God

Rio de Janeiro is often called the Marvelous City, or 'Cidade Maravilhosa' in Portuguese, thanks to its breathtaking natural beauty, including iconic landmarks like Sugerloaf Mountain and Christ The Redeemer statue. The combination of stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and lively atmosphere contributes to its nickname. Another nickname for Rio de Janeiro is City of God, or 'Cidade de Deus' in Portugese, due to its big contrast between wealth and poverty in the favelas. The nickname became popular following the 2022 film "City of God" which depicted the life in the favelas and the city's complex social issues. The statue of Christ arises in the skyline of Brazil and oversees the big metropole city which never loses its character thanks to the friendliness of the local people, also known as Cariocas.

Rio's Beach Life

Rio de Janeiro's beach life is vibrant and diverse, with some of the world's most famous and lively beaches. Copacabana and Ipanema are very popular and attract a big number of visitors each year. But the beaches are popular with the Cariocas as well. They are social gathering places where you can get a nice sun tan and enjoy some beach sports. The beaches offer a mix of activities from sunbathing and beach volleyball to watersports like surfing and paddleboarding. You'll find a diverse crowd enjoying the lively atmosphere, beachside vendors, and kiosks offering snacks and drinks. The beach culture is an integral part of Rio's social life, with people gathering to relax, socialize, and appreciate the scenic beauty of the coastline.

Sugar Loaf Mountain

Sugarloaf Mountain, known as Pão de Açúcar in Portuguese, is one of Brazil's most iconic landmarks and a symbol of Rio de Janeiro's beautiful natural surroundings. Sugarloaf Mountain is a must−see attraction especially for its breathtaking views of the city and beyond. It is accessible by cable car that was inaugurated in 1912.The cable car leaves from the ground station in Praia Vermelha and runs along a 1400 meter route to Pão de Açúcar, with a stop at Morro da Urca, a smaller peak that nestles between the two points. The bubble−shaped cable car provides 360−degree views of the city through its glass walls and roof, and the ascent takes a total of six minutes, allowing plenty of time to capture some beautiful images. From the top of the two mountains, you will have incredible views of the city landscape, including the Botafogo cave, Copacabana edge, and the entrance of Guanabara Bay.

Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer, or 'Cristo Redentor' in Portuguese, is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ on top of the Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest overlooking Rio de Janeiro. Completed in 1931, this iconic monument is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The statue is approximately 30 meters (98 feet) tall, excluding its pedestal, and has a wingspan of about 28 meters (92 feet).
