Brazil will host the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2027
NEWS After being elected host country by the International Football Federation (Fifa), Brazil will host the Women's World Cup in 2027. The election took place on Friday May 17, 2024 during the 74th FIFA Congress, in Bangkok, Thailand. The Brazilian candidacy won the selection from a joint candidacy from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Brazil, which has already hosted two editions of the Men's Football World Cup, received 119 votes, while the European candidate received 78 votes. Herewith the reaction of one of the greatest female Brazilian soccer players: Marta, soccer legend and Brazilian national team player "It was a natural choice: the FIFA Women's World Cup will be held in Brazil in 2027. Playing a World Cup at home is the dream of so many girls in Brazil! That's why I want to thank everyone who was part of this achievement. Let's continue together because women's football in Brazil, South America and the world deserves it. 2027 is in Brazil! Unlike the last few weeks, today I woke up to some great news and a reason to smile. I was very happy with the news and I'm sure that the 2027 Women's World Cup will be a success, and the Brazilian people, as always, will be open−armed to welcome the global football community!" In the final, the U.S. defeated Brazil 1−0 thanks to Swanson's goal in the second half. For Brazil, it was an incredible run, especially for Marta. The soccer icon had an emotional rollercoaster of a tournament. She received a straight red card in the final group stage match against Spain, suspending her for the quarterfinal and semifinal matches. Still, Brazil was able to knock out France and Spain to reach the final, just in time for Marta's return. Marta's silver marked the end of her incredible international career as she already determined she will retire from the Brazil national team after the Paris Olympics. (Source: NBC Olympics) |
