NEWS

On Monday August 5, 2024 Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade beat American Simone Biles in the floor exercise competition at the Olympics in Paris. She won the second gold medal of her career, after the first place achieved in the vault three years ago in Tokyo. Rebeca Andrade becomes the record holder for medals for Brazil in the Olympics, with six podiums. With one gold, two silvers and one bronze at the Paris Olympics, this was Brazil's best artistic gymnastics campaign in terms of total podiums. Brazil got 20 medals in total with Beatriz Souza and Ana Patricia Silva/Eduarda Santos achieving gold as well in Judo and Beach Volleyball respectively.

The Brazilian female soccer team was also present at the Paris Olympics and did win a silver medal. In the final, the U.S. defeated Brazil 1−0 thanks to Swanson's goal in the second half. For Brazil, it was an incredible run, especially for Marta. The soccer icon had an emotional rollercoaster of a tournament. She received a straight red card in the final group stage match against Spain, suspending her for the quarterfinal and semifinal matches. Still, Brazil was able to knock out France and Spain to reach the final, just in time for Marta's return. Marta's silver marked the end of her incredible international career as she already determined she will retire from the Brazil national team after the Paris Olympics. (Source: NBC Olympics)
