Caetano Veloso on Tour with "Meu Coco"

On Monday 25th of September 2023, Brazilian composer and singer Caetano Veloso did play at Bozar in Brussels where he did present his latest album "Meu Coco" alongside his greatest hits. Veloso's seasoned voice, his fantastic live band and Brazilian sounds turned the evening into an unforgettable Indian Summer.

Veloso is probably Brazil's most popular and influential singer, composer and guitarist. He is a Grammy winner, and a political and social activist like his best friend Gilberto Gil. They both played a central role in the modernization of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira, literally 'Popular Brazilian Music ') with the creation of Tropicalismo in the 60s. Their music was characterised by a mix of avant garde and more traditional Brazilian sound which left an important mark on European and South American music. With the local context of turmoil and political repression they even both got exiled to London at the end of the 1960s. From the 1980s onwards, Veloso also became popular outside Brazil. In 2004, Brazil's English-language album "A Foreign Sound" released covers in new interpretations of Cole Porter, Bob Dylan and Nirvana.

Veloso is an icon in the music world. Some even consider him as one of the best songwriters of the 20th century, compared to names like Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Besides more than 50 solo and live albums (including "Live at Carnegie Hall" with David Byrne of Talking Heads), he composes film scores for Pedro Almodovar's "Hable con Ella" or Julie Taylor's "Frida" for example. During his long career, he has won numerous awards, including thirteen (Latin) Grammy Awards and two Grammy Awards for 'Best World Music Album'.

Veloso achieved a unique career that transformed Brazilian music forever and marked the world panorama with dozens of released albums and sold-out concerts all over the world. One of his most recent albums, "Ofertório Ao Vivo" (2018), was recorded with his three children. It was time to celebrate his work once again, live and in communion with the public, in September.

After almost a decade of impatiently waiting, Veloso did present his album "Meu Coco" which was released in 2021 which gives us a glimpse into his heart and head and shows how his brain works while creating songs. "It has been nine years since I last released an album with new songs. At the end of 2019 there was the desire to record new material solo. It started with a guitar rhythm that, if performed as I dreamed, would resonate for any audience anywhere in the world. The song "Meu Coco" is the result." (Caetano Veloso).
